West Ham have this morning claimed they have offered Declan Rice a basic wage of nearly double the £8,000 per week  which is being reported in the mainstream media.

ClaretandHugh has been told the 19-year-old defender has three years – with options – left on his current deal and the club say he has been offered a £15k per week basic with appearance clauses that could take him to £30k a week.

The youngster made 35 appearances last season and forced his way into the Republic of Ireland team where he has so far made three appearances and been tipped a future captain.

West Ham take the view that to push his basic to £30,000 from £3,000 a week would ‘spoil’ the defender and are currently identifying new central defensive targets anyway.

His agents meanwhile are continuing to push for a flat £20k a week basic which would be £10k above the figure he was expected to be offered as a basic wage.

With competition coming from new arrivals next season, the club presumably takes the view that £15k with incentive clauses are realistic terms. That offer is on the table and although there is some ‘wriggle room’ it’s not going to double to £30k a week.
