West Ham’s FA Cup tie at Stockport County on Monday night was paused by a fireworks display outside the ground as the players couldn’t hear his whistle.

Referee Mike Dean stopped play at Edgeley Park as the fireworks were let off near Stockport’s home.

An amusing image of Mark Noble shows him with Mike Dean looking spooked as fireworks exploded above the stadium.

It is believed the fireworks were done in a show of support to a 15-year-old local boy currently in hospital.

The boy, named Khai Whitehead, has been in hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a police car in Stockport on Boxing Day, the Manchester Evening News has revealed

Officers were responding to reports of a domestic disturbance when the 15-year-old was hit by the vehicle at around 9.30pm, on Garners Lane in Stockport the day after Christmas. The boy was taken to hospital with a serious head injury with his condition was described as critical.
