West Ham will be forced to subsidise Robert Snodgrass’s wages following his move to Aston Villa this afternoon.

The Scotland international was finally reunited with his former boss from Hull days Steve Bruce after the Hammer hammered out a compromise deal with the Championship outfit.

It was thought Villa would only pay 50 per cent of the winger’s wages but ClaretandHugh has been told that our negotiators managed to push it up to 65 per cent.

And we understand that it has also been agreed that should Snodgrass help Villa back into the Premier League then he will be signed permanently.

The Hammers took the view that even the 35 per cent they would have to pay towards the deal was a better option than the player sitting at West Ham with no prospects of playing when there was a good “shop window” available for him at Villa Park.
