Hammers unhappy as top prospect ignored
The 18 year old is with the Royals until the end of the season and there is disappointment within the club that he has been ignored so far by manager Jaap Stam.
Oxford opted for the chance to join Reading after considering offers from Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Scottish Premier outfit Rangers.
But his failure to make any sort of appearance is a big disappointment to West Ham who saw this as an ideal opportunity for him to get serious game time at Championship level particularly with the Royal chasing promotion back to the Premier League.
At the time he joined Reading chief executive Nigel Howe told the club’s official website
“Reece was a player who was wanted on loan by a number of clubs and we are absolutely delighted to have secured his services for the remainder of the season,” .
“He is young, but hungry for success and I am sure he will prove an excellent addition to our squad and learn a lot during his spell under Jaap Stam at Reading.”
However, he has so far been totally ignored in terms of a first team place as the Royals have moved into fifth place ten points off leaders Brighton and Hove Albion.
A Hammers source said: “It’s unfortunate – he needs game time and hopefully he will soon enter the manager’s plans.”
