Hammers United makes its position clear

News that Hammers United have launched a survey on fans requirements and preferences prompted ClaretandHugh to ask the group a question that has been on our minds for some time.

The group has been active in organising protests against the board whom they want replaced whilst at the same time calling for meetings on fan representation within West Ham.

That had seemed to be a somewhat Jekyll and Hyde scenario with the owners hardly likely to be prepared to offer such a situation to those who want to replace them.

Committee member Andrew Byrne reacting to our inquiry said: “Hammers United is an FSA affiliate independent supporters association who would like to be involved in independent dialogue with the club to represent the views of our members.

This dialogue might include all manner of operational aspects of the running of the club that affect the experience of supporters. For example, conversations around ticketing, match-day travel, stewarding, mascots, merchandise etc.”

Indeed, all of the above are within their survey which is now online for supporters to complete should they so choose.

He added: With reference to our stance as a group, we are currently calling for new ownership. We are happy to work with the staff employed by the club on matters such as those listed above, in the hope that we can assist our members, but in the long-term, we feel it is imperative that someone new is at the helm.

If a meeting with the owners were to be convened we would wish to make our position clear and, in the absence of that meeting, we continue to make that position clear through protest.

While we do hold the position that we would like to see new ownership, we don’t believe this stops us from working with other individuals at the football club and supporting all other aspects of the football club.”
