Hammers v Norwich: Little PL covid guidance

Norwich City are due to report on the number of covid cases they have in their squad by tomorrow (Sat).

But unless they can show there is an “exceptional case” for calling the game off at the London Stadium on Saturday they may be forced to get on with it and play the match.

The Premier League finds itself in a vague situation via its own rule book on the issue where the  2021/22 Premier League handbook includes Covid protocols.

It states the Premier League’s board will “only permit the rearrangement or postponement of a league match in exceptional circumstances”.

The ‘guidance’ says however permission for a postponement will not be granted if a club have 14 or more players from their squad list available.

Canaries boss Dean Smith has been suggesting he may have up to half a dozen players unavailable whilst Brentford boss Thomas Frank wants the weekend programme suspended and Graham Potter has voiced concerns about the road we are on currently.

The PL will no doubt have been in touch with government on a daily basis and they will presumably give guidance on what comes next given the Omricon surge.
