How to make Bonzo a part of East End forever

Newham Council has made it clear it wants a permanent reminder of West Ham’s connection to remain in the Borough.

It follows their decision to allow the famous statue of Bobby, Geoff and Martin to be moved from the Barking Road junction, where it currently stands, to the Olympic Stadium.

And forum members at ClaretandHugh have immediately made it clear that this is a perfect opportunity to honour Billy Bonds – a sentiment we heartily endorse.

Sadly Bill can’t be remembered at the new stadium after the club took up it’s naming rights allowance but Newham’s insistence leaves the way clear for Bonzo to be remembered in the area he became such a hero forever.

CndH follower “Bubs” wrote: “Just what we need replace the statue with another with Billy Bonds being the main man. Maybe a team of greats in the kit of the day figures slightly smaller then the Bobby Moore one. That would be something that could be for Billy Bonds.”

And “Dainon” wrote: “Billy Bonds with the FA Cup …. He is Mr West Ham.

ClaretandHugh agrees with this great suggestion and will put it on Newham Council so if you support the idea let us know below.”

A new statue could possibly include other iconc members of our past such as Ron Greenwood and John Lyall.
