Niall McDonald hands out the marks on a horrible afternoon

Adrian: Like going back in time four months – half a dozen superb saves but still let in 4! 6

Byram: Would have been different if he’d hit the target in the first five minutes. Maybe. 4

Reid: Not even sure I can credit Winston with being our best defender today 4

Collins: Booked for his furious reaction to the ref letting Liverpool make us look silly on the break. Poor 4

Fonte: Sacrificed as we chased the game or made an example of? Really poor 3

Cresswell: Struggling. Let’s hope the summer and a good pre-season brings back the Cresswell of previous years 4

Nordtveit: One half of what I calculated to be about our 10th choice central-midfield partnership; a yard off the pace at best 4

Lanzini: Looked our most capable/likely until the break. Scale of the task was beyond him after the 2nd went in 6

Ayew: “He’s hit the beans on toast!”, an incredulous voice behind me said after Ayew’s crucial miss (TWICE) 4

Calleri: Bade his likely farewell to the London Stadium with an all too typical display 3

Fernandes:  Clutching at positives I know but there was a run and a shot in the first half from young Edmilson 4

Subs

Fletcher: Again, showed he wants the ball played in behind, early. He should mention that to the other players 4
Feghouli: A surprisingly lively introduction in the second half 5
Snodgrass: One sweet volley would have been goal of the month material had it been on target. It wasn’t 3
