Hughie hands out the marks

Areola: One great save from Fred and no chance with the goal. Comfortable afternoon apart from that 7

Coufal: Still not the player of last season and came off halfway through the second half although not clear if it was tactical or for injury. The goal came down his side and one wonders whether it would have happened had he still been on the pitch 6+

Zouma: Back after a couple of months and looking as good as new. Two or three fine blocks and generally very solid 7

Dawson: Usual sound display and looked better with the summer signing beside him again 7

Cresswell: Not back to the pre-injury pre-season form with little coming from him in offensive play and crosses but defended well enough when required 6

Rice: Same Declan as ever and our best performer, breaking stuff up and trying to up our tempo 8

Soucek: Looked livelier than he had done at times but there was some sloppy stuff in there and he was unlucky to head narrowly wide from a corner 6+

Fornals: Very near and tidy, sharp passing and always finding decent positions 7

Lanzini: Pushed back with the others for lengthy periods but once again looked in form with some neat and tidy movement and passing 7

Bowen: Very much a man in form and one colossal run over 70 yards looked likely to reap dividends until he was halted. Always available, tireless work rate. Good performance 7+

Antonio: Worked hard to make things happen in first half particularly but got little support 6+

Sub

Fredericks: We’ll try to find out  why he was brought on but was nowhere to be seen when United started the move down his side which led to that goal. Offered little 4
