Hugh hands out the marks as we sink to a third successive defeat

Fabianski: Very impressive again despite the three goals – some great saves. Top buy at £7 million 7

Fredericks: Strong going forward and some good runs whilst by and large looking after his defensive duties 6

Balbuena: He looked more the part today but the odd shaky moment. He’s getting there 6

Diop: Nightmare debut when making a horrible clearance to ensure the second critical goal 4

Masuaku: Defended well when he needed to and got forward at every opportunity 6

Sanchez: Fine debut – looks exactly what we need in the centre of midfield. An enforcer who can find some serious passes as well. Enjoyed that 7

Wilshere: Flitted around the edges of the game without ever influencing too much. More needed Jack 5

Antonio: Did well with some fierce running down flank and nearly converted a fine curling effort 6

Snodgrass: He may be marmite but I love him. So much industry and plenty of skill and guile 7

Anderson: Got better and better as the game went on and was perhaps reaching his peak towards the end. Some terrific runs and crossing. Beginning to see why we paid the fee 8

Arnautovic: Taken off second half after a knock – pray it wasn’t serious because there was a real wind down soon after – took goal really well 7

Subs:

Perez: Missed a sitter laid on by Anderson near the end 3

Chicharito: Big asked for this guy to follow Arnie in one up role – nothing happened 4

Yarmolonko: Very early days but could have done better with more bravery at attempoting to convert Anderson cross – needs game time 4
