The most important game for so long and here’s Hughie’s ratings with Niall McDonald away on his holidays

Randolph: Some horrific keeping at times  and usually  bailed out by the excellent Ginge. Truly scary when Swansea pressed towards the end and nowhere near two dangerous crosses 4

Byram: His best performance so far  – his coming of age hopefully – and one remarkable intervention on Siggurdson at the end 7

Fonte: A little better but left for dead via lack of pace on a couple of  occasions 5

Collins: Wonderful performance. Rolled back the years and adopted a fantastic they will not pass attitude 7

Masuaku: Solid first half but got the run around defensively in the second 5

Snodgrass: Provided the pass for Kouyate’s  goal but apart from that absolutely nothing 4

Noble: Needless foul gave him his tenth yellow and two match suspension. Won some important free kicks and worked hard if slowly at times 5

Kouyate: Fabulous goal, incredibly competitive – he looks captaincy material to me 7

Ayew: One great shot well saved, lots of heavy touches and little real impact apart from that 5

Lanzini: Excellent stuff as ever…some real magic in his feet and a joy to watch 7

Antonio: Caused all sorts of problems before having to go off with hamstring problem 6

Subs:

Fernandes: Late arrivaal in 86th minute. No rating

Feghouli: Usual mix of high promise and no end product 5

Callieri: Slow and with no great hold up ability – not good 4
