Declan Rice is worth well north of £100m and the Hammers should demand £160m for his signature in the summer transfer window, according to ex-striker Teddy Sheringham.

The Irons have had to deal with a number of reports linking the midfielder with a potential move to a major Premier League club, be it either Chelsea, Manchester United, or Manchester City.

Rice has, of course, has emerged as one of the very best players in his position in world football this season, having played a key role as England reached the Euro 2020 final in the summer.

The Irons are continuing to push for qualification to the Champions League and Sheringham believes that the club should be demanding as much as £160m if a club comes knocking on the door when the transfer window opens at the end of the season, after Spurs demanded as much as £200m for Harry Kane last summer.

Quoted by The Daily Mail, Sheringham, who played for the Irons between 2004 and 2007, said: “I think David Moyes said something about him being a £100million player, didn’t he?

“I’d hold on to him and say, ‘I want more than that, this player’s unbelievable, he’s better than that. If you really want this guy you’re going to have to break the bank and show me you think of him as much as I do, because I’m not letting him go for £100m.’

“When the best centre forward in the world was up for sale in the summer, Tottenham wanted £200m for him, the other clubs didn’t have that valuation. I’m going up to 150, 160 for Declan Rice.”
