Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey remains a possible Hammers summer buy but the manager is looking hard at the midfielder’s injury record this season before committing himself.

The player has made just 12 appearances this term and is currently out of favour despite recovering from a thigh injury.

And with Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden performing well for the Toon he doesn’t look likely to be getting his first team place back anytime soon.

Newcastle will want around £20 million for the 27 year old  but the Irons are reluctant to pay such a figure for a player who has had more than his share of injuries this season.

The Jack Wilshere situation remains very much in the club’s mind and they have no intention of making another what could be considered high risk signing as a result.

A senior Hammers insider told CandH by e mail that he was a player than interested us but that his injuries and likely price tag may present problems.
