West Ham are refusing to give up on signing Basel’s striker Albian Ajeti ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Reports wrongly suggest that the Hammers had a £4.5m bid rejected earlier this week only for fresh reports today suggesting that Slaven Bilic and West Brom have come back in with a new bid of £8m which was claimed to be accepted.

Basel remains the Champions League and faces Lask in the first leg of the third qualifying round tomorrow night at 7 pm local time with Ajeti a key figure in their hopes of progressing further should he be fit to play.

A West Ham insider speaking to Claret and Hugh this evening by e mail said that negotiations are continuing and West Brom had not sealed a deal.

There is now a 50/50 chance of landing their 22-year-old striker target before Thursday adding that the Hammers had bid a considerably lot more than the reported £4.5m figure.

The striker is understood to be keen on a move to the Premier League rather than the Championship but West Ham must persuade Basel to sell their star striker in the middle of the Champions League qualifying rounds and then reach a financial agreement they will accept.
