Irons midfielder is staying . . . just like we told you

West Ham has officially announced, confirming what Claret & Hugh reported months ago – Tomas Soucek has signed a new contract with the club.

The reason for the media department’s delay in revealing this news is unclear. Chairman David Sullivan had already confirmed this information to C&H several weeks ago, countering persistent rumours that the Czech midfielder might leave on a free transfer. Speaking on October 15th, Sullivan stated, “Tomas Soucek signed a new contract 6/8 weeks ago. I orchestrated it with Tim Steidten – the story is utter rubbish.”

This confirmation should put an end to the baseless speculation that Soucek could sign pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs in January. C&H initially broke the news in August, and it is now understood that the player was never close to departing the club.

In a statement to the official website, Souček expressed his happiness about the contract extension, saying, “I am very happy to have signed this new deal and very proud that I can continue my career here.

“It has been four years since I joined West Ham United, and I have enjoyed every moment. Coming to England was a new experience for me, and we have been successful in the time that I have been here.

“We have won a trophy, had good results in the Premier League, and I am happy with myself, that I have played nearly every minute, and I feel that the fans appreciate me here.
