Irons play cat and mouse Giroud game

West Ham are refusing to rule Olivier Giroud out as a striker signing this summer.

The Hammers are beginning to show their desperation to add at least two front men but continue to believe that whilst the Frenchman has declared his determination to stay at Arsenal events could change rapidly over the next three or four weeks.

And with another interested club, Marseilles, looking in the direction of former Hammers target Carlos Bacca, the Irons could be in a strong position if Giroud has a change of heart following the Arsenal arrival of Alexandre Lacazette at the Emirates.

So keen was Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to grab the striker that he made him the club’s record signing which makes it clear that Giroud is going to struggle for game time.

The 30 year old hasn’t entirely ruled out a move anyway but the Hammers believe they need to get their new men in quickly but that August may be the earliest they could get Giroud.

It’s very much a cat and mouse game as the Irons pursue other targets whilst continuing to keep in touch with the Giroud situation.
