West Ham will be in the market for a striker when the summer transfer window finally opens.

Despite cash flows set to hit the worst ever levels for all clubs given the current health crisis, the club know they will need a back up to Seb Haller, or indeed someone who can put him under pressure for his place.

The manager  was left with just the Frenchman as an out and out front man with Michail Antonio always seen as an emergency front man.

And with Albian Ajeti failing to impress at any level David Moyes has made the position his biggest priority for the new campaign.

Although the Hammers will need to balance the books by  seeing some outward departures they won’t necessarily be waiting for that to happen before bringing in a goalscorer.

ClaretandHugh was told by a senior insider by e mail: “It’s essential that we bring one in and it’s clear that is the  priority.

“It’s been a worry all season and we need to get it right but like every club we need to shift players as well as get the right faces in. Whether we like it or not the books have to be balanced in difficult financial times.”
