Team selection gave Bournemouth half a chance

Bournemouth’s luck ran out last night and had it not there would have been a sense of injustice about the outcome.

Whilst Manchester City have a seriously strong squad manager Pep Guardiola clearly decided to hold back key players given the  upcoming FA Cup semi final and Champions League quarter final clash.

The Premier League is no longer a priority and whilst it’s understandable that he should do what he did from his club’s point of view for the Villa, Watford and the Hammers it could have caused a load of harm.

At the outset of the resumption we reported that those club meeting clubs with little to play for had an advantage and it almost turned out that way last night.

Given Bournemouth”s incredible luck against Leicester – a Kasper Schemichel cock-up for a penalty – and  a Leicester sending off, it was time they had a reality check.

Tonight we can only hope that Everton produce a more committed team and performance against Villa and that Southampton and the Toffees take the Cherries entirely seriously in the last couple of games
