Nikica Jelavic’s move to China is awaiting a rubber stamp and the Croatian striker expect to be on his way to join his new squad members over the next few days.

And contrary to some reports that the player will be allowed to leave on a free transfer there will be a fee of around £1.5 million from Guangzhou Evergrande.

He will follow the likes of Chelsea’s Ramires who moved east earlier this month to join Jiangsu Suning in a stunning £25million deal. Newcastle United’s Cheikh Tiote is also wanted to play in Beijing.

Jelavic joined West Ham from Hull City in the last transfer window and has scored three goals in 13 appearances, 11 of them as sub.

With the Chinese season opens at the end of February but the club are hoping to get the deal done over the next few days although the player could be involved against Aston Villa this evening.

ClaretandHugh was told this morning: “It is not true there is no fee involved. We will pick up around £1.5 million which represents a small loss on what we paid for him.
