The League are seeking backing from club chairmen at a virtual meeting to take whatever actions they deem necessary in their bid to thwart the plans of the financiers bidding to break away league.

Hammers chief shareholder David Sullivan will be sticking to the position he declared publicly five years ago along with David Gold.

Sullivan had said in 2016:” It would destroy football as we know it. Also if there was no relegation, everything other than the top of the division would be boring by mid season.”
Meanwhile, almost unbelievably, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has claimed the new league is being set up to “save the game. He is reported by the BBC as saying the move had been made because young people are “no longer interested in football” because of “a lot of poor quality games”.
“Whenever there is change, there are always people who oppose it,”he said.
