West Ham remain untroubled by Arsenal boss  Arsene Wenger’s claim that he needs Olivier Giroud to remain at the club next season.

The Gooners boss claimed in various reports today that Giroud – despite only starting 11 games last season – was an important member of his squad and that he wanted the Frenchman striker to stay.

The Irons however, are continuing to work behind the scenes in their bid to grab to the player rated at around £15-£20m knowing that everything could change should Wenger successfully land prime target Alexandre Lacazette or another on his wish list.

It is well known that Wenger is very much in the market for a top forward and has a policy of looking carefully at players once they reach 30 plus.

ClaretandHugh was told by a senior Hammers source: “It’s very very early days in the market and it’s no secret that Arsenal are looking for a top striker so we remain confident that there’s an awful lot left to develop on this one.

“Not many of the top clubs are ready to talk about transfers out until they have organised the transfers in.”
