West Ham are ready to talk to Wolves about Jose Fonte moving to the promotion seeking Championship outfit.

The Molineux club have been linked with the Portuguese international regulaarly over the last few days and the Hammers are ready to talk a price once the Championship leaders make a move.

According to the Birmingham Mail, manager Nuno Espirito Santo wants the former Southampton defender and Portugal international and the 33 year old is now close to full fitness after injury..

With Ogbonn, Rice, Reid, Collins and Burke available for the central defensive positions the Irons will be happy to allow Fonte to move on, hopefully for a similar fee to the one they paid for him – £8 million.

Fonte needs regular football if he is going to make the Portugal squad for the  World Cup in Russia.

Wolves have brought a number of Portuguese players in at Molineux since the arrival of Nuno and it is no surprise to see Fonte linked with a move to the midlands outfit.

Speaking last month, the ex-Porto manager said the club will only bring in players who can add some quality to the side.

He said: “We are very clear, we know exactly what we have to do. When I say that, to come to the squad of Wolves in this moment he has to be something that gives us an increase of quality and different characteristics that we don’t have.”
