Joe Hart has been omitted from England’s squad for the summer’s World Cup after Gareth Southgate opted against selecting the national side’s most experienced current player for the tournament in Russia.

The Manchester City goalkeeper, who has spent the season on loan at West Ham, was told on Monday in a phone-call from Southgate that he would not be travelling to Russia.

Hart’s loan deal with the Hammers comes to an end this month with his 11-year Manchester City career also officially ending the same day when his contract expires with the Premier League winners at the end of May.

Hart will become a free agent but with his current wages are claimed to include £120,000 per week from West Ham and a further £55,000 per week from Manchester City. The Hammers won’t entertain wages everything close to take the amount and will look elsewhere for a replacement once the West Ham manager situation is resolved.
