Kids beaten

A 10-man West Ham U23 side were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City on Sunday morning.

The game saw the Hammers’ second-placed Irons take on the leaders of the Premier League 2 but the Irons could not get the better of their opponents.

Going into the game, City were the league’s leading goalscorers, and they scored their first goal after just seven minutes.

Aji Alese gave away a penalty and James McAtee stepped up to score from the spot, chipping the ball down the middle and handing City an early lead.

The Irons’ hopes of getting back into the game were then dealt a major blow on 35 minutes as Jamal Baptiste was sent off for a second bookable offence. However, there was some confusion in the West Ham technical area, with some members of staff believing it was his first yellow card, rather than his second.

And City had a second just before the hour mark, as Carlos Borges slammed home a finish from close-range after a Liam Delap flick-on.

A disappointing day for the Hammers’ kids.
