Top West Ham insiders were left relieved but puzzled when Cheik Kouyate’s sending off against Crystal Palace was turned over by the Football Association this afternoon (Tues).

The immediate reaction from on of our top insider was “Thank God for that but you have to wonder what’s going on don’t you?

“We have now had three red cards rescinded on appeal – two for Cheik and another for the skipper Mark Noble when sent off against Liverpool.

“When you appeal three times and win every one it  tells us something doesn’t it and it’s not great.”

Another well placed source said: ” It was Mark Clattenburg who was responsible for the soft sending off of Dwight Gayle in the Hammers 3-1 in at Selhurst Park last October. It’s a bit thought provoking that there’s another one at Upton Park isn’t it?”

Some believed that the FA may take the view that Cheik was becoming a serial ‘offender’ following his second appearance before an FA appeal panel since February.

But our best source said: ” Justice was done and we are pleased. It was never a red card and the decision to show red was universally criticised.”
