The brilliant midfielder – injured while on international duty for Argentina ahead of the Rio Olympics – flew back into the UK earlier in the week and after scans at Spire Roding Hospital has been told that he has suffered a soft tissue knee injury.
There is no break and the club are relieved that he will not be out for an extended period with a ClaretandHugh source explaining: “Of course we wanted him from the start of the season and it’s not the greatest news but perhaps better than expected.”
Meanwhile Gokhan Tore – who missed last night’s Europa Cup defeat in Slovenia – will be available for the second leg match at the London Stadium next week.
ClaretandHugh was told: “It was nothing beyond a training round knock and he will be available for selection.
“We just felt it was sensible to take no chances at this point in the campaign.
