Former West Ham loanee Jesse Lingard is determined to prove a point as he was rewarded with a rare start for Manchester United in their pre-season friendly against QPR this afternoon.

It took Lingard just three minutes to score for the Red Devils with the club social media channel saying ‘The PERFECT start, courtesy of  Jesse Lingard!’

This is only the second pre-season friendly of the summer for Manchester United, the first being at Pride Park against Derby where Lingard came on as second-half substitute hitting the crossbar and assisting another goal in a 2-1 win.

“Jesse has come back, he’s been bright and he wants to fight for his place,” Solskjaer commented in a post-match press conference.

“There’s nothing better than seeing players willing to fight for their place. Of course, what he did towards the end of the season, that is the true Jesse.

“That’s what we know he is capable of. I think we saw towards the end [of our own season] that we lacked maybe some options at times.

“Lingard is still in my plans. I expect him at Man Utd at the start of the season.”, Ole concluded.

Lingard scored nine goals and made five assists in 16 appearances for the Hammers last season while on loan but as it stands he is unlikley to return.
