Liverpool’s dressing room is said to be “devastated” by the serious injury of defender Virgil van Dijk.

Players have said they ‘struggling’ to sleep following the incident last weekend, according to Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who has opened up about the ‘hard to take’ moment at Goodison Park.

Van Dijk hobbled off after a scissor-tackle from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and he is expected to be out for ages.

The 29 year-old faces surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament and is likely to be out for the majority of the season.

Liverpool are in third place behind Aston Villa and Everton and seem a shadow of their form from last season.

They are are winless in the Premier League in October with an embarrassing 7-2 loss to Aston Villa and a 2-2 draw against Everton last weekend.

It could be a good time to play the current Premier League champions when the Hammers travel to Anfield on Halloween.
