London Stadium drops to fourth in capacity league
Yesterday Spurs opened their new £850m stadium with an official capacity of 62,062. They said it was a sell out despite publishing an official attendance of 59,215 last night as Spurs played Crystal Palace in the opening game.
Manchester United hold the top spot at Old Trafford with an official capacity of 74,994. Arsenal’s Emirates stadium drop down to third with an official capacity of 60,260.
West Ham’s London Stadium has an official capacity of 60,000 as from January even though it has 66,513 seats within the stadium as recorded in the deed of variation signed in November last year. If the reconfiguration of the South and North lower stands ever happen that could see the number of seats increase to 67,213 at the former Olympic Stadium but licensing that many for football is still a long way off.
A more realistic target for West Ham is an increase to 62,500 in the 2020/2021 season which would propel it into second place leapfrogging Arsenal and Spurs.
