West Ham have sent Marseilles negotiators back to France with a flea in their ear for the second time.

The Ligue 1 outfit’s top team arrived to try sorting out Dimitri Payet’s move back across the channel but found it hard going with uncompromising David Sullivan in charge at our end..

They had already seen a first £20 million bid knocked back as derisory given the various  clauses they wanted to include involved Champions League or Europa Cup qualification.

Marseille’s president Jacques-Henri Eyraud was involved in the talks today but there was little more on the table and the Hammers had no hesitation is saying “no deal” as they hope for other clubs to come in and bid.

That’s a huge worry for Marseille who were left in no doubt that only an offer of £30 million – £35 million will be considered.

We were told this evening: “SADLY, there is no deal at this stage. We are not desperate to sell him and in this market Marseille’s offers are far too low.”
