West Ham are today being reported as being set for a winter window raid Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.

The club are ready to bring in a new Number two to Lukasz Fabianski following the disastrous signing of Roberto whom director of football Mario Husillos will do all he can to unload.

David Martin has done well over the two games in which he has played but the club believes it has to have more cover on Fabianski’s return after such a bad injury.

Turkish news outlet Aksam, claims Cakir is a target although such has been the director of football’s record in the market last summer any new arrivals will probably be more carefully monitored by the board.

The source says that West Ham’s sporting director Mario Husillos, as well as goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero, have agreed to sanction the move.

Cakir’s agent is reported as saying: “Liverpool are one of four English sides keeping close tabs on Ugurcan.”

ClaretandHugh says: Whilst Roberto needs to go, the performance against Wolves showed that not all the issues for the team’s form can be laid ENTIRELY at his door. The argument was that their lack of confidence in the stopper was reflecting throughout the team but Wednesday night demonstrated there were weaknesses despite that – notably up top. Martin, however did really well and made three top saves as the Hammers came under pressure and looks more than able of becoming the regular  Number Two spot. It also needs to be remembered that Turkish media reports have proved more than a little inaccurate in the past!
