Matty calls it a day

Former Hammer Matty Taylor has called it a day announcing his retirement from professional football

Taylor wrote on Twitter: ‘After 20 years as a professional footballer, the time has come for me to retire at the end of the current season.

‘I have loved every minute from leaving school at 16 years of age to pursue my dream and will look back on it all with the fondest of memories.’

 Taylor has been released from West Ham in 2014 then aged 32 after refusing to sign a short term deal on reduced terms at the end of his contract.

Matt Taylor joined West Ham from Bolton Wanderers in July 2011 for £2,25m under Sam Allardyce. He made 76 appearances for the hammers finding the net two times.

He previously played for Luton Town, Portsmouth and the England Under-21 side.  On leaving the Hammers he joined Burnley on a free transfer later joining Northampton Town and Swindon Town.
