David Moyes admits that he wants to sign a left-back before the transfer deadline.

The Hammers are eyeing a potential deal to sign Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea and have reopened talks over a deal.

West Ham made a bid worth £13m to sign the Italy international but the deal initially broke down over a gap in personal terms.

Moyes was asked about the pursuit of Emerson and while he refused to mention the Blues man by name, he did admit that the club need to sign a left-back before the transfer deadline.

Quoted by Football.London, he said: “We’d like somebody at left-back to help Cressy and get cover there but I would like some cover there. I wouldn’t talk about anyone individually.”

The Hammers face Brighton this weekend and Aaron Cresswell is likely to be restored to his first-choice role at left-back.

He will be able to play there, with Thilo Kehrer in line to make his debut after signing from PSG in midweek; Kurt Zouma is also fit and Vlad Coufal can return to right-back, having played on the opposite side against Viborg.
