Moyes brushes off relegation talk… again

David Moyes insists that he is not thinking about West Ham being relegated, despite last night’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.

The Hammers have now gone four games without a win and have lost 10 matches this season; only bottom-placed Southampton have lost the same number.

They sit 16th with 14 points, one clear of the drop zone, and go into Friday’s clash with Brentford well aware that a victory is desperately needed.

The Irons will then face Leeds and one has to think that the next two games could be make-or-break for Moyes in terms of keeping his job.

However, he insists he is not currently thinking about the prospect of being relegated, despite the club’s woeful form.

Speaking after the 3-1 defeat to the Gunners, Moyes said, as per BBC Sport: “I have been looking upwards, we have good players and ones who can compete right at the top. We need to start turning it into points and there have been others game where we should have taken more from them. Tonight I didn’t like the way we defended in the second half.”

Moyes is consistently bullish when asked about the prospect of the Hammers dropping into the Championship, but one has to accept that it is becoming a more realistic possibility with every defeat.
