Moyes can bring Irons agent bonanza to an end

The day of the agent financial bonanza may well be coming to an end at West Ham United under David Moyes.

For there will be no player joining this club until the manager himself has checked out every player on his own list and it looks certain he will be moving into the Championship for many of his buys.

It’s a keynote of the way he work. Whoever scouts or agents may be persuading him towards, Moyes has a distinct modus operandi – he checks them himself.

It was the same in his first spell at the club when he ran the rule over Fulham’s Tom Cairney  who failed to arrive perhaps when Moyes left in the summer.

This weekend he was at The Valley and QPR where he was thought to have been checking out full backs and central defenders in particular.

In 2018/19 from a total Premier League spend on agents of £260 million a total of over £14 million was contributed by the Irons.

That looks certain to change as the manager ignores to a great extent marquee signings and looks instead for those  – who like  Jarrod Bowen – can make the step up.

With Covid 19 having devastated club finances Moyes methodology in the market looks like a serious bonus.
