Nayef Aguerd won’t play for West Ham before the World Cup.

The Hammers defender has been attempting to recover from a serious injury sustained in pre-season and is being slowly nursed back to fitness.

He played in last week’s Europa Conference League clash with Silkeborg, and was also on the pitch on Thursday as a youthful Irons side beat FCSB 3-0.

Aguerd, though, is not set to play this weekend against Crystal Palace, nor will he play against Leicester before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar.

Boss David Moyes confirmed the news after the FCSB win, as he continues to keep a watchful eye on Aguerd’s recovery.

He said, as per Hammers News: “I’m pleased for him. I think that will be his first 90 minutes since the end of last season. I think he will benefit from the 90 minutes. He’s certainly back now but I don’t think he’ll play for us in the Premier League before the World Cup break.

“But if you’re asking me if he’s fit and ready to go, yes he is, and we’re just getting him completely ready now.”

Aguerd may get another chance to get some minutes under his belt next week, though, when the Hammers face Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup.

He is also likely to be named in Morocco’s squad for the tournament, and he would play against Croatia, Belgium, and Canada.
