David Moyes insists West Ham gave absolutely everything they could against Manchester United and deserved to take something away from the game.

The Hammers were brilliant throughout the second half at Old Trafford but were unable to stick the ball in the back of the net, being continually denied by the absolute heroics of goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Spain international made brilliant saves from Mikey Antonio, Kurt Zouma, and Declan Rice, while Jarrod Bowen saw a shot from six yards blocked by Harry Maguire.

The Irons continually created chances throughout the second half but could not find a way through and Moyes was left scratching his head as to how the Hammers lost the game.

Quoted by BBC Sport, he said: “If you look through the game, we have been really close. We deserved to come away with something. I don’t think we could have done much more. We gave the ball away a bit too much and that led to Man United’s goal but overall we played well.”

Moyes also heralded the abilities of De Gea, who was in absolutely miraculous form for United.

The Hammers boss, who worked with the Spaniard during his time at Old Trafford, added: “We know what a great keeper De Gea is, he was during my time here, and we hoped he wouldn’t save one of those two chances. I’m pleased for De Gea because he is a great guy but disappointed that one of those didn’t go in.
