West Ham manager David Moyes has decided not to carry out a second pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s rescheduled match against Manchester City. Instead, he has published a series of quotes about the game.

He reveals that he is very pleased pleased with the way Jarrod Bowen has settled in quickly on his arrival at the club and with his training but admitted he is wary of throwing in new recruits too quickly.

David Moyes is quoted as saying “I have been pleased with what I have seen from Jarrod at the moment. He’s come in and settled in very quickly, he’s looked very sharp in training. He’s obviously had loads of games, it’s not as if he’s short of match practice or match fitness in any way so I have been pleased.

“But I am also wary of putting the boys in too quickly. I have had lots of boys from the Championship in the past and I think it’s important that you put them in at the right time, the right moments, at the right time and we will just take our time and see when it’s right for Jarrod.”

Asked whether he would be starting Bowen on Wednesday night at the Etihad the Gaffer said: “I wouldn’t say that and I wouldn’t be direct as that and give you the answer even if I was. But obviously, he is a talent. We need goals, he can do that. I am also very aware that we don’t need to put pressure on him too quickly.”

Claret and Hugh say: Maybe Manchester City is not the ideal game for a starting debut for the new recruit but in some ways, both Wednesday’s game and next Monday’s game at Anfield against the Premier League leaders are free hits for Moyes to introduce new formations and new styles of playing with different players. The big game comes against Southampton at the end of the month which many regard as a make or break game when it comes to West Ham’s Premier League survival chances.
