Moyes issues Fabianski injury update

David Moyes is hopeful that Lukasz Fabianski has not sustained a long-term injury.

The goalkeeper had to be substituted in the first half in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City after sustaining an issue while trying to claim a cross.

Alphonse Areola came on to make his second debut, having joined the club permanently in the summer, but he struggled somewhat after his introduction.

He fouled Erling Haaland in the box, giving the Norway international the ideal chance to open his City account from the spot, which he duly did, while he was well-beaten later on by the striker’s excellent finish after Kevin De Bruyne played him clean through with a stunning through ball.

Moyes has now confirmed Fabianski sustained a hip injury that left his leg completely numb, but he is hopeful he will recover swiftly.

Still, it may be that Areola starts in goal next week against Nottingham Forest.

Quoted by Football.London, he said: “He got a knock onto his hip, which he thinks has numbed his leg completely, so the knock makes me feel not so bad.

“Hopefully, it won’t be anything serious but he’s limping badly at the moment. Hopefully, it’s not maybe as bad as we felt, he had no feeling in his leg after getting the knock.”
