Moyes lays down the goals gauntlet

David Moyes has urged his Hammers side to spread the goals around the team after struggling to hit the back of the net at the start of the season.

The Hammers had another profligate display against Liverpool at Anfield, ultimately losing the game 1-0 thanks to Darwin Nunez’s header.

Jarrod Bowen missed a penalty in that game, while Tomas Soucek was also denied by a late James Milner block, despite being just six yards out.

The Hammers have scored just nine goals in 11 league games this season; only Everton, Aston Villa, Wolves, and Nottingham Forest have scored fewer.

And Moyes has now called on the entire team to start hitting the back of the net as the Irons aim to continue climbing the league table.

Speaking to reporters, as per the club’s official website, Moyes said: “All we can do is make the players more aware that we think we’re missing too many opportunities. We need to get a better goal tally than we’re getting than at the moment.

“We’ve got to get goals all around the team.”

Bournemouth, ahead of Monday’s game, have a woeful defensive record and have conceded 23 goals this term; only Leicester have conceded more.
