Moyes on summer transfer market and Rice rumours

David Moyes was asked about his plans for the summer transfer window and whether Declan Rice would still be around next season.

On transfers, Moyes told reporters “I think you have got to remember that the club spent £200million [recently]. We’ll try and add to it if we can, if we can’t we’ll go with what we’ve got and there are a lot who can improve and a lot who have since lockdown, Micky Antonio is an example of that. We’ll try and get the best out of the players and if we can add to it we will do.”

Asked whether Declan Rice would leave the Gaffer said: “He’s under contract and he’s going on holiday as far as I know, hopefully he’ll be selected for England as well and he’ll be back with us for pre-season in three weeks.”

Promoted about Rice transfer rumours the 57-year-old said “Declan should have attention because he is such a good player. But, he’s not going anywhere unless you get one of those steel vans that have the cash in it? You better bring one of them.”

Asked whether he plans to get his transfer business done early he added: “I don’t think that will happen, as much as ideally everybody would like it to but I don’t think the market will play out that way. I may be wrong and if you look at the history of the markets, all of the things go on during the last day of the transfer market, yellow ties and all that stuff. The Brits leave it to the last minute whereas in Germany they get a lot of their business done earlier. Also because of the lockdown, the financial implications, I think it might be something that goes on a lot longer. I hope not but that’s how I feel it might go.”

The Summer transfer window opens tomorrow Modmnay 27th July and closes on 5th Cctober.
