Moyes pleads for time

David Moyes has pleaded for time at West Ham, insisting the Hammers will improve once the summer signings have settled ahead of next season.

The Irons were poor again on Saturday and were beaten 2-0 by Leicester at the London Stadium.

It was the third defeat of the week, having been beaten by Crystal Palace in the league last weekend, and knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Blackburn Rovers on penalties in midweek.

All three defeats have taken place at the London Stadium, and the Hammers now go into the international break in 16th, just one point clear of the relegation zone.

It’s fair to say the likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Lucas Paqueta and Thilo Kehrer have all struggled since coming to east London, but Moyes feels they need time to settle.

Speaking after the Foxes defeat, as per Football.London, Moyes said: “Nearly all teams have ups and downs, I could tell you stories about Everton. When you are growing and building it takes time. We bought in good players and those players take time to settle in. We just need to give ours time to settle in. First season is never easy, second is better.”

And he insists he retains a degree of support from the board, although there remain question marks over how long he will remain in the dugout if this form continues after the international break.

He added: “I’m really grateful for our club and the support they have given me. I don’t think i’ve done bad for them either. Brendan has been there as well and he knows how it works. We have done a lot of good things we just can’t find a way of scoring at the moment.”
