Moyes refuses to “put pressure” on Bowen

David Moyes continues to insist that he will not be rushing Jarrod Bowen into action claiming it is unfair to expect him to make a difference.

And the reason is that the manager is personally boasting to have a lot of experience of Championship players and when and when not to play them.

He is presumably recalling his time at Everton when he brought in the likes of Phil Jagielka and Joleyn Lescott which is all well and good but leaves you scratching your head wondering why he signed a guy at £22 million in the winter transfer difference if it wasn’t to make a difference.

It’s too easy to become abusive in certain circumstances and that is no way forward.

But this really is a hard situation to understand because it was pretty clear to most decent judges that against Manchester City he had a lot about him in the 10 minutes that Moyes decided to hand him.

Discussing the situation at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/february/21-february/david-moyes-well-do-everything-we-can-anfield : the manager said: “What we’re not going to do is put all the pressure on Jarrod Bowen to make the difference, because the boy’s come up from the Championship.

What I can tell you is he’s looked sharp, he’s certainly match-fit, he’s settled in very quickly and I would say he’s added to the group. I think he’s a good addition to the squad we’ve got and hopefully he shows that.

What I’m not going to do is put him in a position where we’re rushing him and he’s not ready yet. I’ve got a lot of experience with boys from the Championship and hopefully I’ll understand the right times to put him in and the right times not to use him as well.
