Moyes studies defender’s injury record

West Ham boss David Moyes will continue to look closely at Winston Reid’s recovery process before making decisions on the central defender’s Hammers future.

At his best, the long-serving Hammer is the equal of most PL defenders, but he has been blighted by injury problems over the last couple of seasons which has seen his Premier League appearances restricted to 36 from a possible 76.

Injuries have probably impacted on his form which at one stage this season saw him fall behind James Collins in the Hammers defensive pecking order.

It’s now well known that the manager – assuming, as looks likely, he remains at the club – is determined to strengthen his defensive options and is bound to back his own signings which makes Reid’s position perhaps even more tenuous.

Reid is contracted to the Irons for another five years which means they would command top dollar in the market place should they decide to sell.
