West Ham manager David Moyes has publicly thrown down the gauntlet to Sebastien Haller after the player produced a pretty anonymous performance against Liverpool.

And he may have been diplomatically agreeing with those who believe the striker’s body language is telling it’s own story as he appeared to again to be merely going through the motions during the 90 minutes..

The manager said: “I think Sebastien has got to be self-motivated to get his level of performance up so he can get goals and score.

“We will show faith in him and we want him to come back and get us the goals and performances to go with it.

“It was always going to be a hard game tonight for anybody playing against Liverpool it would have been if it was Micky Antonio or anyone else.

“We want Seb to get goals he has done in the past and we will give him the opportunity but, obviously, his performance levels need to be good.”

Many observers to yesterday’s defeat suggested Haller looked disinterested and unmotivated again.

Injured Michail Antonio was sitting in the Anfield stands and Moyes has revealed that he may return sooner rather than later saying that the winger-cum-striker is already back on an exercise bike in the gym.

Moyes’  optimistic target is that Antonio could recover a lot quicker and be back after the international break for the Sheffield United game.

If that is the case that Haller might just have one more game against Fulham to prove himself before Mikey’s return from injury.
