David Moyes has decided to stick by his tried and tested squad for the opening game of the interrupted season should Project Restart get underway which means there will be no room for any young blood in the squad.

Currently the recognised first teamers are the players involved at Rush Green whereas in the past one or two of the academy youngsters are involved.

It had been suggested in some quarters that Ben Johnson and Xande Silva may be added to the first team squad ahead of the restart.

But we have learned that manager David Moyes is adopting a safety first approach and will not be adding any of the more promising youngsters to the squad.

Everybody is of course now fit but it was though Johnson in particular may be added to the squad given Ryan Fredericks’ injury record but it appears that Pablo Zabaleta remains ahead of the youngster.

We were told by a well placed source on the phone: “The players you would expect to see involved are training at Rush Green- the youngsters aren’t involved.”
