Moyes wants owners to break the bank for keeper

According to journalist Alan Nixon, David Moyes wants Jack Butland from Stoke, telling owners to buy him if they give him the managers job. Butland was in floods of tears as Stoke City succumbed to defeat to Crytal Palace yesterday to confirm their relegation but in reality, the goal stopper will want to find a new Premier League club to keep his England career alive and most likely break the £35m British transfer record for a keeper in the process.

Liverpool has been strongly linked with a £40m move for the keeper. The Reds are the odds-on market leaders to land Stoke’s shot-stopper with Arsenal as second favourites. Silly talk suggests Stoke will ask up to £70m for their prize asset in a possible bidding war.

Paul Lambert values the England goalie around double the current world record fee of £34.7million Manchester City paid Benfica for Ederson last summer. The Scot, who was sacked by Wolves at the end of last season proved there was no love lost as he aimed a light-hearted dig back at his former club who have been linked with Butland, asking: “£35m… is that for one glove? “The way the modern market is you might get one glove for that. I know the people at Wolves but that amount would only get Jack’s right-hand glove!”
