Moyes: We just weren’t good enough

David Moyes admitted that West Ham just were not good enough against Crystal Palace.

The Hammers took the lead in the game against the Eagles thanks to Said Benrahma’s scorcher, but Wilfried Zaha equalised after Thilo Kehrer lost the ball on the right wing, and Michael Olise scored in injury time to give Patrick Vieira’s side all three points.

The Hammers did have a penalty shout in the second half when Mikey Antonio went down under the challenge of Marc Guehi and the referee pointed to the spot; VAR, though, overruled the decision, with the referee sent to the monitor.

Moyes was left bemused by the performance, and felt that the Irons just weren’t at the races throughout the 90 minutes.

He said to BBC Sport: “We didn’t play well enough. We couldn’t have expected much more [from the result]. A draw wouldn’t have been wrong but Palace played better than we did.

“We got in front when we didn’t look like it in the game but then we let Palace into the game. It was terrible. Second one we looked more likely to score.

“No complaints with the result.”

And the Hammers boss had no complaints about the penalty overturn, as colleagues on the bench had told him that the decision was soft.

Moyes added: “I heard from our staff it looked soft so by all accounts VAR made the right decision.”
