David Moyes says he won’t stand in Winston Reid’s way if he wants to go out on loan again this season.

He says he is happy to have him around and train with the first team but says he already has four good centre backs at the moment and there is not an opening in that position as it stands. Reid started for the Under 23’s last night, his first game in a West Ham shirt since his loan to the MLS.

Reid joined West Ham from FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2010 for around £5 million, he is thought to earn £70,000 per week and has a contract until June 2023.

David Moyes told reporters yesterday: “He had a bit of time off when he got back from America. He’s going to play for the under-23s tonight and he’s been training for the last two to three weeks. It’s a little bit like Reid doing his pre-season. We have him back and if he wants to go out on loan we’ll be open to that. But we’re also very happy to have him around the place. He’s been a great ambassador for the club and he’s someone I respect greatly. At the moment we have four centre-halves who are competing for positions and we don’t have too many openings in that area at the moment.”
