Oggy 34 years old

By Hughie Southon

West Ham are now the oldest team in the Premier League fielding a defence last night with an average age of approaching 34.

Had Aguerd been involved for Oggy it would have only brought that down to 31 and by the way the overall age of the entire team was 29…at least until 32 year old Mikey came on!

That really isn’t good enough from a manager who only a year back was telling us he was gonna build a young and energetic West Ham along with the later explanation that we wouldn’t be involved in a relegation scrap.

Last night – after the latest defeat – he was forced to produce a big U-turn explaining that we were indeed involved in a dogfight.

The board however are sticking by him and it’s easy to see why.

They hope he will be able to produce a team capable of beating Leeds, Wolves and Everton and escaping the jaws of relegation. In between times there is of course Brentford away in the FA Cup.

Should we  – as we all pray – escape relegation Moyes has a serious problem in defence where at least three or four young and skilled defenders will be required.

Is he the man to buy them? On what we have seen of the new arrivals so far this season the jury has to be out on that.

These are indeed worrying times.
